MacDowell Male Chorus has been a strong community arts performer in the Fox Valley area for 76 years. Albert Glockzin, a music professor at Lawrence University, founded this nonprofit, all-male chorus and conducted its first public concert in 1935.

Each year, MacDowell grants scholarships to graduating high school senior men who aspire to further their studies. These scholarships are awarded to soloists who demonstrate proficiency in singing and musical presentation. Auditions, using general music competition criteria, are the basis for scholarship awards. More information is available at www.macdowellmalechorus.org.

Founded in 1934, the Appleton MacDowell Male Chorus, Inc. took the name of noted American composer Edward MacDowell. Since 1934, MacDowell Male Chorus has performed more than 500 times in more than 50 different cities in five of the continental states and in Canada. The chorus has also appeared several times on television and radio. Memorized music is a MacDowell Male Chorus tradition and the men have over 500 religious and patriotic numbers, show tunes, operatic and classical selections and fun pieces in their repertoire. MacDowell Male Chorus performs live full concerts every April/May in the Appleton area. Other full concerts are scheduled at six to eight "away" venues around the Wisconsin - Michigan region in March and April.

       SPECIAL DEDICATION CONCERT

Marlene Butler, long time organist for the First United Methodist Church, was also the primary accompanist for the MacDowell Male Chorus for many, many years. She was awarded honorary lifetime membership in the chorus for her contributions over the years.

On November 6th at 7:00PM the First United Methodist Church dedicated it's new Carillon in the name of Marlene Butler. This is an occasion towards which Marlene had worked diligently for many years prior to her passing.
